Douglas Fast

Douglas Fast has been a lifelong amateur photographer pursuing subjects and themes stemming from his interest in local geography and history, and the physical and human landscapes created by these processes.

The images in this show are drawn from the story of the North American prairie landscape. The influx of settlement and agriculture to western North America a century ago, resulted in the widespread decimation of the prairie ecosystem, and left very little natural prairie in existence today. It is these losses and the resulting consequences that Douglas attempts to highlight and expose with his prairie photographs.

Douglas is from Winnipeg, Manitoba and uses medium format black and white film photography.

All his prints are hand made in a darkroom.
